Thankful Thursday

I'll admit sometimes it is hard to be thankful when I consider the mundane tasks of everyday life. I love the sense of accomplishment that comes from knowing every single bit of laundry is washed, dried, and put away. However, that feeling of accomplishment is only for a moment because it isn't long before a new pile emerges. So long sweet feeling of accomplishment...

Then there are the tasks that really seem so futile, like dusting. I mean dust really never goes away does it? I loathe dusting and am not sure how people with bigger houses and far more knick knacky items cope...I dusted the entire house last week and within a day it seemed like I could write my name in the dust again. It is easy to think, "why bother?"

I could come up with a huge list of all the things like this that irk me and cause me to grumble. However, that is not the intention. I am trying to reverse my thinking and see the positive aspects of the mundane...

I am thankful for the mountains of laundry that develop because that means my family and I have clothes to wear...

I am thankful for the crumbs on the floor because that means I have food to eat...

I am thankful for the dishwasher I have to unload because that means I didn't have to hand wash all those dishes...

I am thankful for another trip to the grocery store because that means I have provision and convenience...

I am thankful for the hardwater spots and deposits because that means I have running water...

I am thankful for the little handprints on the mirrors and windows I just cleaned because that means I have a little one in the house...

I am still not sure I need to be thankful for the dust but it beats being completely exposed to the elements. Therefore, I am thankful for a having a house to live in to get dusty... :o)

Hoping you, too, can find thankfulness in the mundane today...

Beautifully said Darling Daughter! It opens my mind to consider even more "blessings" of the mundane...even now, when I'm at "you know where".

Thank you!

Love,
Mom

I LOVE this post! You are such a talented writer and have a way of expressing things just perfectly! Yes, we have so much to be thankful for in our "mundane" life! I try to tell myself the messier my house is I just have much more to be thankful for because it means we are "living life to the fullest."

This post came at a perfect time for me to read as we will be getting a new puppy tomorrow and I have been dreading the house training and all that mess that comes with a new puppy! The rest of the family is so excited so I need to focus on that!:)

Does this mean I have to be thankful for the cup of milk that Ainsley spilled on my rug yesterday? Great post... I too find it hard to get excited about anything of the mundane nature. Perhaps it is my attitude? You have given me much to think about as I get ready to unload the dishwasher and put the towels in the dryer!!!! Guess what, I am looking at a blizzard out my window on April 10th! Digging down deep to be excited about it! :)
Love ya,
Diana

Oh Lisa....you KNOW I love you....but dusting??? Laundry???? I am mostly just thankful when the house is spotless (for two seconds) and I can rest on my laurals(for two seconds) before the anxiety of chaos overtakes me once more......

I do get your point and I am going to try very hard to appreciate the mundane tomorrow (but I don't have to like it!! :-))

I'd like the mundame better, if my efforts were not in vain - clean it up - dirty within minutes!!

But, I, like you, am thankful for all of it because it means so much more than the mundane.

Have a fab weekend, sweet friend.

Love,
Heather

Thank YOU, Lisa, for reminding us of all the wonderful blessings that we tend to see as burdens. But, OH, what blessings they are!!!

I'm thankful for the incredibly dirty house that I'm in, all the unmade beds, piles of laundry, dishes needing washing, and toilets needing...well you know! My house is full of blessings and I am so very grateful!!

Have a BLESSED day Lisa!!

What a positive way to think! Once again Lisa you challenge us to give thanks instead of looking at the negative. I will grumble less about cleaning the house, laundry, ect... and give thanks for my blessings. Have a blessed weekend!

I thank you as well! I have come to read it twice. We do need to be thankful for the things that so many do grumble about.

I so needed to read this way of thinking today! Great post!

Off to do more laundry. I don't know if we are the cleanest people in town or the dirtiest people in town!

Being thankful for all these things shows that you have a content heart! That's so cool! I couldn't agree with you more.

I love this post because it is so true. We should find the blessings in our everyday life.

that all sounds too familiar!

last weekend, I taught my scouts the meaning of the word "content"... be glad for what you have. anytime they started complaining or competing too much, all I said was "remember the C word"

Lisa,
Thanks for reminding me to be thankful for all these things as well. Sometimes it's so easy to be overwhelmed by the list of things to do instead of thankful! Thank you!
Blessings,
Gayly
