Thankful Thursday

"Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can." John Wesley

Last night as I read the mail, I had the opportunity to read the Half the Sky Progress Report. It was filled with incredible stories about how orphans in China had been taken care of in a variety of ways because of the efforts of this charitable non-profit organization. Not only was I warmed to know children had been impacted in such positive ways, I was beyond touched when I read about some of the donors who were young children. I thought that's what I want Lindy and her mei mei to be like.

Today I am thankful for thoughtful, generous, charitable people who make a difference. I'm not talking about the people who know exactly the perfect gift to give for whatever the occasion. They're great, don't get me wrong. Who doesn't love receiving the perfect gift? However, I am talking about people who dig DEEP--especially to the point of sacrifice--to help meet someone's needs whether it be monetarily and/or by giving up their time.

I'll admit, it is not always easy for me to put aside my material wants and to-do list to give of my time and resources--especially to those I might not know. I am trying to change this and be less selfish and more intentional about my efforts. It is easy to talk about what I plan to do but when it comes to following through I am not where I want to be. I know I need to consistently model compassion, not only because God wants me to but because I have a little girl who is watching and will be influenced by my actions. So, thank you to the people who give and give and give.

Happy Thankful Thursday! What are you thankful for today?

beautiful post Lisa! I too want to teach my children the importance of having a giving nature to the point that it just becomes who they are. There is another quote I am reminded of, Only a life lived for others is a life worth while.
So true...
