Just like riding a bike--yeah, right...

As we wait for mei mei, there are days I find myself COMPLETELY freaked out at the prospect of having a really little one in the house again. Overall, Lindy was (and is) so easy, so I know I probably take many things for granted with her and the whole motherhood thing.

This past Saturday we had the PRIVILEGE and HONOR to babysit our friends' baby while they went to our church's Sweetheart Dinner. We decided to sit out the annual event for more than one reason but I will admit peach cobbler being the only dessert offering (HERESY in my book) pretty much clinched the decision for us. If you know me very well, you probably know I gag a little just typing that. Neither Don and I like peaches and I'm just downright phobic and neurotic about them. Even if there had been another choice, I would have been "worrying" all evening that the cobbler spoon would touch the other dessert, thus rendering it tainted. I'm TOTALLY serious.

Anyway, I digress. We were so excited to babysit this little angel and we thought it was ironic that last week she was EXACTLY the age Lindy was when we got her (just five days shy of 11 months).

As the hours turned to minutes, I kept wondering if I would remember what to do and how to take care of a baby baby. Let me tell you, I don't remember Lindy being that small or helpless. I really don't. Our special guest was great fun and she was a total dream. She was a complete doll. However, I am here to confess that I am REALLY out of practice and it wasn't totally like riding a bike. When it came to changing a messy--and I do mean MESSY--diaper (still WAY better than peach cobbler), it took me about 10 minutes and 23 wipes. I made just about every rookie mistake. Then when it came to putting her into her pajamas, which was a one piece thing with about 1000 snaps, that took about another 10 minutes. My oh my...I am rusty and I am so glad Candid Camera wasn't there to film me.

So, if you are in the local area and you read this blog and you are about to have a baby or have one in the house, this washed up mommy is in need of some more practice!

Oh Lisa, this post made me crack up!! First of all, I don't think I have come across anyone that dislikes peaches that much..... you are serious, aren't you??

Don't feel bad, when Sarah came along, I was REALLY RUSTY...after all, it had been 9 years since I had a newborn and all the things that come along with them...LIKE MESSY DIAPERS and middle of the night feedings. When it is your time, you will jump right back into the mode.....in the beginning, you get by on the sheer adrenaline and then all those skills coming rushing back to you like it was yesterday. You will be just fine when Mei Mei arrives......hopefully that is soon:)

What a sweet little girl......looks like Lindy enjoyed your little visitor as much as you did. They are adorable together!

Have a wonderful week my friend:)

xo,

Lisa

Seriously funny about the peaches. And can I just tell you that I bought peaches this week with because I have been craving some peach cobbler. Can we still be friends? ;)

And I don't think you'll have any shortage of babies to "practice" on. Lindy looks like she's got the big sis thing down pat already.

Praying that Mei-Mei comes home soon!

That is hilarious! I'm sure it will all come back pretty fast when you are doing it day in and day out. :) I can't believe that about peaches- crazy! And just so you know, I think Lindy has the baby thing down- you are in good hands!!!

Don't worry! It will all come back to you -- just like riding a bike!

Hoping and praying Mei Mei arrives soon!

i'm just impressed that you could work "peach cobbler" and "messy diaper" into the same sentence!! i don't like it much either... i really only eat the crust part and leave the goop :)

you will be a GREAT mom again. i'm sure it will come naturally once she's here.

Oh Lisa...this is FUNNY! LOL!! I know you'll do great when lil' mei mei is home! :) But your peach-phobia really cracked me up...I have to say, that was a first I've ever heard of anyone disliking peaches so much. You're a hoot!!

But I DO feel ya when you're talking about wondering hhow you'll do be so 'unpracticed' and all. I'm right there with you. Especially since my youngest is 11 years old... it's been awhile for me! Though I do have several nieces and nephews. But it's never the same as your own children, and I truly am more excited than I am nervous. Praying that the nerves subside for both of us and that insticts kick in at full speed just when we need them most! ;)

Have a blessed week!! <><

I'll put you on speed dial for diaper changing practice. I mean, it's the least I could do to help a friend....

Love you!
